Enjoy a 360 virtual tour of Benidorm known as “Little England” with its vibrant, high-energy, cheap bars, and extensive sandy beaches.

- Pre visit research. I will be here from the 20th March and updating as I go.
Benidorm is somewhere I never thought I would actually end up going to. My best friend decided it would be a great destination for us all to celebrate his 40th. With a large group of 20 of us going, it should be a good laugh no matter what.
Benidorm is a city and municipality in the province of Alicante, Valencian Community, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Known as the “New York of the Mediterranean”, Benidorm has been a tourist destination within Spain since 1925,
- Benidorm has a permanent population of 70,450 inhabitants, making it the fifth-most populous city in the Alicante province and the ninth in Valencian Community.
- The city is divided into five parts: Poniente (Ponent or ‘sun setting’) and Levante (Llevant or ‘sun rising’), each fronted by a beach of the same name; the old city (also called El Castell); La Cala situated to the west side of Poniente; and El Rincón de Loix (or El Racó de l’Oix) situated to the east side of Levante. Between the two beaches lies a rocky promontory and the port.
It is thought there were settlements in the Benidorm area possibly as far back as 3000 BC, including evidence of Roman and Punic remains. However, settlements in the area were small.
We’re staying at the Barceló Benidorm Beach in Old Town
Every July since 2010 is the “Benidorm Low Festival” for indie music.
The strip is more often known for greasy fry ups to cure a raging hangover, but I always prefer to uncover the lesser-known and try more traditional local foods where I can. I’m staying in the heart of the Old Town, so I’m hoping to discover local delicacies, family-run restaurants and the favourites among the locals.
All drone usage in Spain is regulated by the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA). That includes recreational and professional use. Back Hone in the UK we use an app called Drone Assist, which does work everywhere. However just to be sure, here in Spain they have an app called ENAIREDrones, this will be the best option while flying here.

Benidorm is mostly flat, easy to walk around and easily navigated by local buses, taxis, or public transport.
- Walking: The best way to navigate the flat, compact city, particularly the Old Town and seafront promenade.
- Bus: local routes connect Levante Beach, Poniente Beach, and hotels. Purchase a Bonobus card to top up for cheaper fares.
- Taxis: Readily available 24/7.
- Tram: Connects Benidorm to nearby towns like Albir, Altea, and Alicante city. The main tram station offers easy access to L1 (Alicante) and L9 (Denia) lines.
- Tourist Bus: A hop-on-hop-off service that connects main tourist spots.
I flew into Alicante from Exeter with Ryan Air which was a 2 hour 30 minute flight. From here it’s around a 45 minute transfer in a mini bus taxi to Benidorm.
- Spain is a country where the strength of the sun can be deceiving, so bring lots of sunscreen
- Spaniards tend to be aggressive drivers – expect honking, swearing and vigorous gesticulating in the course of a day’s drive. Your best bet is to keep calm and carry on, the last thing you want during your holiday is an accident on the road.
Benidorm has a hot semi-arid climate with mild winters and hot sultry summers.
