Enjoy a 360º virtual tour of probably the best 18-hole Pitch and Putt course in Cornwall and a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in Newquay.
We did the pitch & putt and it is a really good way to kill a few hours on a sunny afternoon with friends, I’ve been here a few times now over the years and it’s always a good laugh. It has a great variety of holes, with different lengths water obstacles, undulations and the cliff top tee to the valley below. When you get to hole three and onward the views looking over Holywell Beach are stunning. You don’t have to have any experience at all, in fact my girlfriend had never even held a club let alone swung one and by hole 3 we’d each won a hole between us in our little group of three.
Everyone’s favourite hole though is the eighteenth and last as it’s so unique. Though it wasn’t always the last hole, as it used to be the seventeenth and the eighteenth was after it heading back up the hill to the pub.
I haven’t eaten here myself, but Food looked good that I saw on tables. Though I had to wait a while to be served for a drink, but that could be just bad timing.
- Tip: You may want to use the toilets before heading out as it’s a long walk back. There a few huts around the coarse that seem to be used as toilets, but we weren’t sure if that was the intended use or not.
The course is situated on the spectacular north Cornwall coastline with stunning views of the Gull Rocks overlooking Holywell Bay beach.
- Golf shop has a range of golfing products in stock and this includes a selection of clubs, golf bags, balls, gloves, markers, tees etc.
- You can bring your dog (as long as its well behaved and on a lead)

In 1964 Mr Hartley opened an area of the farm for camping and this proved to be extremely popular. In 1968 he created an 18-hole pitch and putt course so the campers would have something to do on site during their stay. Prior to this he had created a putting green in front of where the current golf club shop/bar is situated. As the pitch & putt success had exceeded everyone’s expectations Mr Hartley decided, in 1974, to build a 9-hole par 3 golf course. The land used had a naturally good drainage system. Its prime use was for barley crops and the grazing of over 200 breeding yews which produced spring lambs. In 1976 the course was extended to become an 18-hole golf course.
The current golf course was redesigned in 2002. Recent aerial photographs show that the newly developed holes 3, 4 and 5 are on top of some ancient burial grounds and Mr Hartley (Jnr) has a document which charts the history of this land.
