It’s not particularly exciting, but still interesting to look at. It’s a shame one of the totem poles since I was last here in 2016 has now presumably fallen and just the remnants remain. The whole place is a little overgrown and doesn’t look to be very well maintained. There is a carving just behind the main pole but it’s so over grown you can hardly see it let alone make out what it is.

Watcombe Woods were originally planted as part of I. K. Brunel estate. In 1990 the woodland was badly damaged during heavy storms. Torbay Council commissioned sculptor Keith Barrett to carve a monument from storm damaged trees, in commemoration of I. K. Brunel.
- The main central totem pole is 58 feet and was carved by Keith Barrett from sequoia and represents Brunel’s engineering acheivements.
- Part of the John Musgrave heritage trail.
- Car, there’s free parking at either Brunel Manor or on Brunel Ave. The Carvings are found in the wood between the two.
- Bus, the No. 22 from the Strand heads through St. Mary Church, will take you on its way to Teignmouth.
- Moderate trail with some hills and steps.
