The views looking out across to Brixham and Goodrington Beach are second to none here, especially on a gorgeous sunny day. Even during bad weather you can enjoy this walk watching the waves crashing against the rocks sending surf high over the colourful beach huts on the promenade at the foot of the cliff below.
The Roundham peninsula and headland rocks were laid down between 280 and 230 million years ago when this area was a desert. This era is often referred to as the Permian Period and the red sandstones of Roundham are the compacted particles of sand and other rocky material from that desert age.
- During the summer months you can enjoy a game of mini golf here on the 9 hole Pitch & Putt course.
In 1920 two German E Boats captured in WWI were being towed to Teignmouth for scrapping. Unfortunately a storm came in and one boat the S-24 ran aground on Preston Beach where she was later recovered and taken away. The other boat, the T-189 slammed into the rocks at Roundham Head and remained there. It was heavily salvaged but a lot of it remains are still there today. At low tide there are still remnants visible amongst the rocks. The water where it lies submerged is only about 20 to 30 ft deep (or about 6-8 metres) on a high tide.
- There are only two WW1 E Boat wrecks in the whole of Britain’s waters, the other is at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands, Scotland.
