Enjoy a 360 virtual tour of the South West Coastal Path. Whether you’re looking for an afternoon stroll to take you to a beautiful view or a hike. Head to the beach, turn left or right and you’ll be on the South West Coast Path, the longest National Trail in the UK. I live in Paignton right on the Coast, so I’m lucky to get to walk on the South West Coastal Path almost everyday. I have covered much of the South Devon sections but I do have a way to go to cover more of the Cornwall, North Devon and Somerset parts. I will of course keep adding more and more images to the tour every time I visit another section.

The South West Coast Path is a trail stretching 630 miles (1,014km) from Minehead in Somerset, through Devon and Cornwall to Poole in Dorset.
- South West Coast Path is England’s longest waymarked footpath.
- Coast Path signs have the acorn waymark, common to all National Trails, and the words ‘Coast Path’. The distance to the next destination will also be shown at places where people join the path.
- Threading its way around the coastline, the Coast Path passes through a number of National Nature Reserves and Heritage Coasts, five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, two World Heritage Sites, a UNESCO designated Biosphere reserve and a Geopark, as well as one National Park.
- The halfway point is marked by a granite sculpture on the beach at Porthallow.
- Generally you’re not allowed to cycle on much of the South West Coast Path as nearly all of it uses public footpath which is only available to people on foot, so there is no legal right to ride a bike.
- Dogs are welcome on all 630 miles of the Coast Path. On some beaches dogs are banned during the summer. Where the Coast Path crosses a beach with a dog ban there will be a way to cross it with your dog – normally this is along the back of the beach, above the high tide mark. Where this is the case, please keep your dog on a lead, do not linger, and keep to the line of the Coast Path or signed alternative route.
- Unfortunately for Wild or Free camping there is no public right to do this on or near to the South West Coast Path. Some forms of wild camping are allowed on Dartmoor and in Scotland, everywhere else the landowner permission is required. Camping on the Coast Path without consent from the landowner is trespass. If asked to leave, failure to do so immediately could be deemed aggravated trespass which is a criminal offence.
- To avoid contaminating the bathing water, and it being a hazard to children playing, if your dog fouls on a beach, please pick it up and dispose of it in a bin.
- Use public transport to travel to your start point and then walk back, that way you won’t have to rush to catch the last bus or train.
- Leave gates and property as you find them
- Remember the sunscreen.
- Take your rubbish home, don’t try and cram more stuff into an already overflowing bin.
- For more info check out www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk
